October 2004
Tigress continues to grow and support an extensive Russian user
base. This year we have teamed up with GeoLeader and CGG to provide
an enhanced range of products tailored specifically to the domestic
and international players in the Commonwealth of Independent States
(CIS) market.
The CIS market continues to attract substantial industry
interest but remains a challenging continent for many foreign
players with different language, business process and technical
criteria to address.
Tigress has been continuously active in the CIS for over 10
years. Our office in Tuymen and our regular visits to clients and
affiliates as far afield as Sakhalin, Raduzhny, Khanty-Mansink,
Almaty, Aktau and Moscow mean that we maintain a close contact with
the local industry. Tigress is a trusted and reliable partner in
this region, where our local track record is extremely
important in building new business relationships.
To consolidate our Russian base we have established a local
company, Tigress Ingeoservices, so that all aspects of the business
- financial, product support and product development - can be
handled locally, with Russian staff and in compliance with local
industry procedures and regulations.
GeoTIGG - a GeoLeader/Tigress partnership
Tigress has worked closely throughout 2004 with another
established Russian service company, GeoLeader, and its partner
CGG, to integrate several new applications into the PDS database.
The merging of PDS and Tigress applications with GeoLeader’s
Russian portfolio and market presence creates the industry’s only
supplier of a combined Russian log interpretation system with an
integrated, secure database offering full links to all major
industry databases.
To date integration work has concentrated on three applications:
GeoLeader’s petrophysical interpretation software, GeoTop, CGG’s 3D
seismic interpretation package, GeoMig, and CGG's quick-look
mapping and data QC tool, GeoQC. A forth product, GeoCaem (Computer
Aided Earth Modelling), will follow soon. GeoTop’s pre-processing
options include environmental corrections for Russian nuclear logs,
plus a range of editing, depth matching and general data QC. The
interpretation includes BKZ interpretation methods for electrical
logs to derive Rxo and Rt, plus the standard methods for Western
logs.
The extensive nature of the existing PDS data model means that
there has been very few data model extensions or changes needed to
integrate the applications. Current versions are running on
modified Tigress 4.6.4 (PDS 2.4.4) installations. The next general
release of Tigress (Tigress 5.0), due in 2005, will handle all
these applications.
General Tigress CIS developments
With more bilingual technical staff on board the translation of
the documentation has progressed rapidly this year. We now have
Russian translations of the key disciplines, including Geology and
Petrophysics, Mapping, Simulation, Data Loading and Utilities. In
addition, 70% of the training material is now available in Russian
and we will also have over 98% of the application menus trees
translated. All current translated material is fully maintained and
simultaneously updated with the English version in the forthcoming
Tigress 5.0 release.
Four new applications have been developed by the Tyumen office
to address Russian industry standard requirements for the
management of production data. These run on the Windows platform
but interact directly with the PDS. ProdLoad is used to format and
load production data. ProdCard and ReForms allow the user to
generate database queries with resultant Excel format outputs.
These include 12 standard Russian industry formats. ProdMap runs on
the Linux platform and is a map-based display of current or
cumulative production data using bubble plots and other
geographical data from the PDS.
