Moscow
VNIINEFT, the biggest research institute for the Russian oil
industry and one of a growing number of enthusiastic Russian
Tigress clients, hosted Tigress’s 9th annual meeting last month.
The event was held in Moscow and attendance was dominated by users
from the European region of Russia.
There are 11 time zones across Russia. Tigress has users in
almost all areas of Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent
States (CIS) where the oil and gas industry operates, so we rotate
the venues for our user meetings between Moscow, Tyumen (in
Southern Siberia, where our Tigress office is based) and further
east into Kazakhstan or eastern Russia.

More than 30 delegates from six companies took part in this
year’s event.
User group meeting schedule
The day began with a preview of the latest Tigress developments,
due for release in 2008 in the forthcoming 5.1.0 delivery. We also
introduced the concept of “Tie it all together” showcasing the
range of Geotrace’s services to its customers. An HFI technology
case study based on West Siberian data was particularly well
received, as were new Tigress developments such as the production
data management Reporter tool and the HubCentral data management
initiatives.
Users submitted a list of comments at the meeting and gave other
useful feedback through user presentations and discussions, and
this material will be reviewed and considered for future Tigress
development.
Tigress training certificates were awarded to a group of
VNIINEFT trainees, who completed a training course in Tigress
volumetrics earlier this year. During the day release packs with
latest 5.0.3 release were handed to customers.
Russian users
Tigress has been active in Russia since the early 1990s and many
of our established users are ‘second or third generation’, having
taken their knowledge of Tigress from one company to another as
they progress their careers. So, following tradition, users
celebrated the end of the seminar with a Russian-style vodka party
and took the chance to continue discussions and build on
friendships old and new.
Thanks
Special thanks go to those who put their efforts into the
meeting, either by direct participation or by helping with
preparations: Russel Dickson (Geotrace Woking), Nikolai Golubtsov,
Anthon Rybalko, Fedor Simonov, Emin Mamedov, Natalya Pilipenko and
all the Tyumen office staff.
