Data and application links

Data can be loaded into the Tigress Project Data Store (PDS) from a variety of third party databases and file and tape formats using graphical interfaces and specially developed links.

The Tigress PDS Developer's Toolkit enables tight and loose integration of third party applications and databases with the Tigress PDS. Tight integration allows data to be transferred directly, while loose integration lets you transfer data by ASCII or binary file.

These links to other databases, applications and file formats transform the Tigress PDS into an open integration platform and data distribution hub. Collectively these links are known as The Import/Export System.

The Import/Export System

The Import/Export System (TIES) is a user-configurable graphical application that acts as a hub for both data transfer and file conversion. TIES reads data from a database, a file, a digitiser or a tape, re-formats the data if necessary, then directs the data to the specified destination, which may be a database, a file, a printer or a tape. Data can be transferred, for example, from file to database, database to database, database to file and from file to file.

TIES supports a wide variety of industry standard data formats for data transfer to and from the PDS, for file to file conversion, and can also be specifically tailored to provide import and export capability for company-specific data formats. You can import and export data in currently unsupported formats using Fortran, C or AWK format conversion programs. These programs can be written by Tigress Ltd or by any external company and are easily added to TIES, thus providing loose link capability to and from the PDS for any file format.

TIES imports and exports all the major data types stored in the PDS, including:

  • Well header
  • Deviation survey
  • Audit
  • Mechanical well data
  • Seismic faults
  • Log traces
  • RFT
  • Production
  • Hydraulic
  • Seismic horizons
  • Core traces
  • Zonations
  • Checkshot surveys
  • Mapping grids
  • Seismic wavelets

Multiple data types for multiple wells can be imported and exported in one operation, either immediately or in batch. The number of wells and data types that can be imported and exported is controlled by the source and destination data formats. Before data export from the PDS, the well data range can be constrained by depth or by zone interval. This can be set globally for all wells, or on a well-by-well basis. Data can also be exported in metric or imperial units.

For a full list of  supported data formats download the Tigress Product Brochure from the Brochures page of this website, or contact us.

Data and database links

OpenSpirit-TIES

OpenSpirit-TIES retains the basic features of standard TIES and connects to the OpenSpirit Application Integration Framework to transfer well header, log and deviation data between OpenSpirit enabled data stores and PBAscii data exchange format.

PDS-OpenWorks link

The PDS-OpenWorks link allows well-dependent and independent data to be bi-directionally transferred between the PDS (version 2.2 and later) and OpenWorks version 2003.

The link is run from the The Import/Export System (TIES) for transfer to and from the PDS. The link allows three types of data transfer:

  • direct from database to database
  • file to database - any supported source data format to OpenWorks
  • database to file - OpenWorks to any supported destination data format.

The link supports the following data types:

  • Well header
  • Deviation survey
  • Log traces
  • Interpreted traces
  • Core traces
  • Core data
  • Zonations
  • RFT
  • Mechanical well data
  • Checkshot surveys
  • Re-allocated production data
  • Production tests
  • Mapping grids

Please contact us for a complete description of the individual data items that can be transferred.

TIES is used to specify both the source and destination databases or files, and the link type (for example PDS to OpenWorks database). For file to database and database to database transfers, the user can specify how duplicate data is handled - ignored, overwritten or merged. Data is selected from the source database graphically using list select windows and is written directly either to a destination database or to a file, as shown in the diagram below.

Tigress PDS-Openworks Link

Recall link

This is a bi-directional tight link transferring well data between the Tigress PDS and Z&S Recall database. Contact Z&S Consultants for further information.

MDS-PDS link

This link transfers bulk seismic and log data stored in the PetroBank Master Data Store (MDS) to the Tigress PDS. Seismic data is exported from the MDS as Tigress 8, 16 or 32 bit format files. The MDS-PDS link is used to select the destination project data store for the data, define the survey location in the data store, move the file(s) to a specified Unix directory and then update the data store pointers to the files.

Eclipse link

The Eclipse link has been developed to import and export Eclipse keyword files. The link imports and exports the controlling RUNDAT file and any include files of grid properties, PVT and saturation tables and well properties.

GeoFrame link

This link displays seismic data stored in GeoFrame and interpreted in Charisma in the Tigress Cross Section application. The link also transfers seismic horizon and fault data from GeoFrame to the Tigress PDS.

Third party application integration

A number of third party applications have been integrated with the Tigress PDS, including:

  • Geotracker from VoluMetrix, for 3D seismic data visualisation
  • Cluster Analysis from Agip, for log facies analysis
  • Sure from HOT, for simulation
  • Chears from Chevron, for simulation
  • Drops Drilling Simulator (DDS) from Drops Technology, for simulation of drilling performance
  • GeoTIGG applications from GeoLeader.

These applications can access data directly from the PDS and in most cases save data back to the database.
